Health, The Forgotten Friend

How many times have you heard someone say, “If I could do it all over again, I’d take better care of my health?” Or have you heard people say, “If I get rid of this disease, I’ll eat right and exercise more frequently?” Unfortunately, most people don’t receive that second chance.
Most people do not appreciate the importance of their health until it is failing. Cookies, candy, chips, ice cream, french fries, alcohol we run to them for comfort and solace. We think these foods make us feel better, but that is an illusion. These foods, and many others like them, are slowly killing us. Every time you “indulge” in a pint of ice cream or an order of super-size fries, you are putting your health at risk. So, does this mean stop eating french fries and ice cream? Maybe. Would you live longer if you stopped eating cookies, candy, chips, ice cream, French fries? Probably. If you lower your intake of the foods that rapidly increase your blood sugar, and kill your brain cells, you will increase your “good” cholesterol level and lower your blood pressure, and probably have a healthier and longer life.
So how do you lower your intake of these foods when they are frequently on sale in bright seductive packaging at the grocery store and readily available on almost every street corner? Here are a few suggestions:
- Have more sex. That’s right, sex, sex, sex (but be responsible). Thirty minutes of sex burns 85 calories or more. So if you can’t resist the allure of a Snickers bar, eat it, but have a little sex later on to burn those calories. A vigorous bout burns some 200 calories. This is about the same as running 15 minutes on a treadmill or playing a spirited game of squash. Muscular contractions during intercourse work the pelvis, thighs, buttocks, arms, neck and thorax. Oh, and you’ll feel more relaxed and your partner will thank you. Still need convincing? Sex also boosts production of testosterone, which leads to stronger bones and muscles.
- Stash healthy snacks in your car so you won’t be tempted to order fast food on your way home from work. I know, it is hard to choose healthy snacks, when you just drove past a billboard instructing you that a McDonalds is 1 mile away when you take a right at the next exit. But your body will thank you later and you’ll be pleasantly surprised when your body starts craving berries and fresh juice.
- Exercise. It will give you a natural energy boost and deter you from eating more calories that you can burn off.
- Drink more water. The more water you drink, the less hungry you will feel. You’re skin will thank you.
- Don’t stop eating these foods ‘cold turkey’. Gradually reduce your intake. If you currently eat french fries five times a week, start by reducing to four times a week. Try this for a couple of weeks and then reduce your intake to three times a week. Before you know it, you’ll cringe at eating the bucket of oil that is attached to the tasty french fries
- Set a specific goal. I know, goals can be tricky…Mama usually treats herself with a trip to the day spa when she reaches one of her goals. Goals will let you see your progress and can be a source of inspiration.
Be strong when you crave food that is not good for you. You will thank yourself later. Remember, health is important. Take care of your health while you still have the chance.
- Mama

I agree with you mama. I frequently stop at a number of fast food restaurants on my way home from work. It is so convenient just to stop. I will take your advice and put snacks in my car!

Water is the best thing you can put in your body, my skin has gotten more clear after drinking three water bottles a day for a whole week!!
I have a friend who was diagnosed with heart disease years ago but wouldn’t stop her unhealthful eating habits. About six months ago, she had a heart attack that nearly killed her. I guess it was a wake up call because she started watching what she eats and has lost a lot of weight. Although I am not overweight, her heart attack made me realize that we should all be health conscious.
I have high blood pressure. A while back, I got a sharp pain that ran from my head down to my chest. My wife took me to the emergency room and I was admitted to the hospital for tests. They kept me there for 4 days and when they let me out, I decided to pay more attention to my body. Although I didn’t have a stroke or heart attack, I woke up and smelled the roses. Now I take better care of myself.
I just joined a gym a few weeks ago. I hadn’t exercised in years. I’m not sick or anything. I just thought it would be a good idea. The funny thing is that I feel so much better. The treadmill is my favorite piece of equipment. I am up to over two miles each time I get on and I’m even jogging a little on it. I’m starting to lift weights, too. The weights were hard at first but now I am doing good on the weight equipment. It’s great that you are encouraging people to exercise, eat healthy, and drink a lot of fluids. Thanks Mama!
Hi, good post. I have been wondering about this issue,so thanks for posting.
