A year and a half ago, someone gave me a bird feeder for my birthday. My first thought was hum…weird gift, but OK. Thank you. So the morning of my birthday, I climbed up one of the trees in my backyard so I could hang my shiny, new bird feeder. I’m not much of a morning person, but I was a little hungry and the bird food which consisted of nuts and berries looked very tempting.

A few weeks passed before the birdies discovered their colorful buffet. Tino, the golden retriever seemed as delighted as the birds, he finally had something other than squirrels to chase. The birds loved their new treasure. There were so many birds that I had to refill the feeder almost every day..and let me tell you, ‘good’ bird food cost a pretty penny. But I continued, I was enjoying my birds and the weird gift was turning out to be not so weird after all.

As the months went on, different types and colors of birds visited my tree. I became accustomed to waking up to the sweet sound of birds singing. I love hearing the sweet sound of a new bird visiting my trees. Luckily, I have a few different types of trees so the birds nested and created new homes. But then I thought, where did these birds come from?, maybe I should plant more trees so more birds can have a safer environment to call home.

So I did just that. Now I have several trees in my yard, fragrant bushes, and enough plants for my own mother to tell me that I don’t need any more. But I’m not satisfied with the amount of trees and plants in my yard. Everywhere I go, I see more opportunity to plant more trees (and clean up our air).

While I was taking a break from admiring my beautiful birds, I stumbled onto Trees for The Future. Trees for the Future helps communities around the world plant trees. I was immediately drawn to their cause. This could be the answer to my tree planting fetish. So I talked to my beloved Facebook Guru and we decided to set up a MamasHealth Fan page.

Every month, Mama will plant 1 tree for each Facebook fan. Our goal is to get 10,000 fans and plant 10,000 trees each month. Become a fan now. It is easy, fast, and best of all FREE. As an added bonus, Mama will have special giveaways for her Facebook fans. We’ll give away gift cards, exercise equipment, and much more!

Wow! I received a bird feeder for my birthday also, what a coincident…I agree, there food cost as much as ours. As a matter of fact, I asked my husband just yesterday about stopping and picking up some food for the birds…his reply “I haven’t eaten all day, what about me?” Keep up the good work mama!

I grew up on a farm in North Carolina and moved to the city after graduating from high school. That was many years ago and I still love trees, birds, and seeing things grow. Keep up the great work, Mama, and you will be blessed with good things in your life.

There is some type of tree in my front yard that seems to attract different types of birds and squirrels. That tree has been in my yard for years and I’ve never taken the time to find out what it is. Now I’m curious about it and I’m going to find out. This site is inspirational.
